About ICANZ What We Do

What We Do

Information Service

Have a question about intercountry adoption? Just ask us! ICANZ provides information about adoption in the countries we work with and we're happy to offer help with general intercountry adoption questions.

Adoption Placement Services

We believe all children deserve to be raised in a caring, nurturing family where they have opportunities to develop their full potential. Our goal is to help families adopt institutionalized children with lowest possible costs and minimal stress for all concerned.

We provide information and help ease the process of inter-country adoption. Intercountry adoption involves a lot of organisation and legal work. It often includes a formal court hearing, with all communication and legal documents in another culture and/or language. ICANZ provides an effective, efficient and safe path through this maze.

Our experienced, friendly team of professionals in New Zealand are accredited by the New Zealand Central Authority for Adoption. We have years of personal experience as adoptive parents and can offer valuable advice and support. We view each family and child as unique and we're available to speak with you personally.

Adoption Support Services

Adoption is forever, so ICANZ is available to help families through the years long after their children arrive home.

Parent Network - a voluntary team of ICANZ parents run a nationwide support network to link adopted children and their families.

Search and Heritage Visits- we offer advice on searching for birth families or siblings or traveling to a child’s birth country. We don't undertake searches ourselves but can often advise where you can find people who undertake this work. We can also help families with visas for trips back.

Educational Events - we arrange and sponsor educational events and conferences to inform and support adoptive families and others working with children from overseas orphanages.

Magazine - we publish the ICANZ Magazine twice a year (since 1991) to keep parents up-to-date on issues relevant to inter-country adopted children.

Library- we can lend books, magazines, videos and DVDs to ICANZ families.

ICANZ Magazine

Subscribe to the ICANZ Magazine to learn more about parenting children adopted from other countries and to celebrate the lives of our children.

Change one life

Adopting a child will not change the world; but for that one child, the whole world changes!
